I was so excited about learning to play Minecraft yesterday that it wasn't until the end of the training that I realized that there is very little chance I can host a Minecraft program at my branch, since it requires software downloads and the creation of a server. <angry face>
But! I've checked online and you CAN play it in a browser, it just requires java, which I'm pretty sure doesn't get updated on our computers (staff or public).
Has anyone talked with IT about how we're going to turn this training/dream into a reality for any branch that pursues it?
Hi Meghan! I can answer that for you hopefully. The plan is that the server will be provided running on a laptop that will plug in to the Ethernet in your computer lab, so it will not require Wifi to run -- Minecraft is memory-heavy and would slow down and crash if you play it in the cloud.
ReplyDeleteThe laptop and user licenses will be provided by Children's Services. Eva is joining the blog and she can correct/fill in anything I missed out.
So happy that you enjoyed it!!
